Patrick Henry Jolly, descendant of Patrick Henry, will portray his ancestor and recite the “Give Me Liberty” speech and share anecdotes.
March 23, 1775: Patrick Henry, at the Second Virginia Convention, dropped one of the most iconic lines in American history: “Give me liberty or give me death!” After years of trying to reason with Britain, Henry made it clear that talk was pointless. His speech shifted the mood from hoping for peace to preparing for war, and helped push the delegates toward backing the revolution.
Patrick Henry Jolly is a fifth-great-grandson of the American patriot Patrick Henry. Splitting his time between his native Ohio and Virginia, Patrick has been speaking on a variety of topics related to the personal and professional life of his ancestor since 1992. Patrick can often be found at Red Hill, located in Charlotte County, Virginia. Red Hill is the burial spot of Patrick Henry, and site of his last home.
